Overview

GBSI is seeking an Information Technology (IT) professional for the role of Systems Administrator in Dam Neck, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Assists with maintenance and administration of computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations;
  • Coordinates and implements system and network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware;
  • Designs, configures, and tests computer hardware, networking software and operating system software;
  • Operates master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, coordinates computer network access/use and makes recommendations for adjustment or future change;
  • Performs routine system or network startup and shutdown procedures and maintains control records;
  • Maintains logs related to system and network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records;
  • Assists with efforts to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replaces defective components when necessary;
  • Confers with functional users to resolve system problems;
  • Installs, generates, maintains, tests, debugs, and integrates system software programs with COTS/GOTS applications and support equipment; develop instructions for integration of operating system software; modifies/maintains integration packages via releases and utilities from manufacturers in a multi-operating system and/or network operating system environment;
  • Supports applications dealing with the overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, networks, CAD or GIS system software, mathematical and scientific software packages;
  • Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations;
  • Maintains an inventory of parts for emergency repairs;
  • Possesses high-level oral and written communications skills; effectively communicates with all levels of client management, contractor managers and client agency representatives; adept in generating and conducting briefings, presentations, etc.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a curriculum or major field of study in complex systems engineering, is closely related to the work to be automated, or in in Computer Science, a physical science or a mathematics-intensive discipline;
  • Four (4) years of industry accepted Information Technology (IT) experience.  Directly related college-level study may be substituted for general experience at a rate on one (1) year of study for (6) months of experience.  No more than four (4) years of study may be substituted fro experience;
  • DoD-issued Secret Security Clearance is required;
  • Required to have and maintain current certification(s) for IAT Level II (GSEC, Security+, or SSCP) in compliance with DoD Directive 8570.1-M.
