Overview
GBSI is seeking a professional for the role of Calibration Lab Technician in Pensacola, FL.  The Calibration Lab Technician works in accordance with available drawings, specifications, technical orders, technical bulletins, and automated procedures.  The Calibration Lab Technician calibrates and certifies a variety of specialty equipment for conformance to established standards using complex methods with exacting tolerances.  The starting salary range for this position is $60,000.


Responsibilities
  • Uses various precision measurement instruments and standards such as pulse generators, frequency counters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes;
  • Sets up and operates a variety of equipment and standards under actual or simulated operating conditions;
  • Uses electronic physical dimensional reference standards to ensure traceability;
  • Utilizes electronic circuits to measure electronic or electrical quantities to determine the performance characteristics and accuracy of other instruments and equipment;
  • Reads, interprets, and applies a variety of technical electronic data such as schematic symbols, wiring diagrams, tables and charts, mathematical expressions and formulae, calibration procedures, and color codes used in the trade;
  • Determines appropriate measurement tolerances based on equipment specifications;
  • Changes absolute tolerances to percentages and vice versa;
  • Converts measurements between systems of units such as SI and English;
  • Uses scientific notation for very large or small quantities;
  • Systematically identifies and defines calibration problems and evaluating alternatives;
  • Uses basic concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics to calculate measurement uncertainty;
  • Mathematically determines the effect of temperature, humidity, and other variables on the equipment undergoing calibration, and the calibration standard used;
  • Uses logarithmic decibel ratios to compare two measurements or a measurement with a reference quantity;
  • Uses computer systems and software to maintain records and control documents;
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools to make incidental repairs;
  • Installs, maintains, calibrates, and/or removes equipment located in workshops, storage areas, and classroom/laboratories;
  • Inspects shelved or stored equipment on a quarterly basis;
  • Troubleshoots (fault isolation) defective/degraded equipment performance and provides corrective action during normal training hours to restore scheduled training capability;
  • Conducts monthly inventories;
  • Maintains (in RFI condition) system repairable and repair parts and consumables on site;
  • Maintains repairable and repair parts and consumables at the stock inventory level;
  • Maintains a perpetual inventory and conducts an annual physical inventory.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in calibration or instrumental technology, electronics technology, engineering technology, or other related field is required. Additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree;
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of related experience is required;
  • Prior military experience is preferred;
  • Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) or other relevant training is required at start;
  • Practical experience in calibrating and maintaining various equipment is required;
  • Proficiency in using calibration tools and equipment is essential;
  • DoD-issued Secret Security Clearance is required at start, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
