Overview
GBSI is seeking an Information Technology (IT) professional for the role of Electrical Cable Technician in Huntsville, AL. The Electrical Cable Technician ensures efficient and accurate assembly, installation, and maintenance of electrical cables, adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.  The Electrical Cable Technician specializes in the hand and machine soldering of electronic assemblies, ensuring they meet industry standards, particularly those outlined in the J-STD-001 specification.  The estimated salary range for this position is between $50,000 - $70,000.


Responsibilities
  • Assembles and fabricates various types of cables, including coaxial, fiber optic, and electrical cables, following precise specifications and industry standards;
  • Selects and prepares materials such as wires, connectors, and insulation for cable assembly, ensuring quality and compatibility;
  • Utilizes tools and equipment such as crimpers, soldering irons, and cable testers to build and test cables for functionality and durability;
  • Inspects and tests completed cables to ensure they meet performance criteria and safety regulations, documenting results and making necessary adjustments;
  • Diagnoses and repairs issues with cable assemblies, including identifying faults and implementing corrective measures;
  • Maintains accurate records of cable specifications, assembly processes, and test results for future reference and compliance;
  • Works closely with engineering and production teams to understand requirements and deliver high-quality cable assemblies;
  • Identifies and resolves issues with existing solder joints and components, ensuring they meet quality standards;
  • Assembles electronic components according to specifications, often using hand tools and specialized equipment;
  • Performs visual and functional tests to verify the quality and reliability of the soldered connections and assemblies;
  • Applies proper soldering techniques to create reliable and durable connections on electronic boards and components;
  • Adheres to established work instructions, schematics, and blueprints to ensure consistency and quality;
  • Maintains records of soldering processes, rework activities, and inspection results;
  • Demonstrates a high level of expertise and competence in soldering and electronic assembly;
  • May install, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling systems. This includes installing, repairing, and testing fiber optic systems, as well as splicing and terminating fiber optic cables;
  • Interprets technical drawings and diagrams to guide assembly and soldering processes;
  • Demonstrates reliability, dependability, and a commitment to quality;
  • Interacts with customers and provide technical assistance.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma is required at start;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of industry accepted electrical or fiber optic experience is required;
  • DoD-issued Secret Security Clearance is required;
  • J-STD-001 certification is required at start;
  • Ability to perform precise soldering and assembly tasks with small components is required;
  • Understanding of different soldering methods, materials, and equipment is vital in this role;
  • Knowledge and experience in fiber optic cable assembly is strongly desired.
